With mere weeks to go until we can all shape an empty land to create a home for our favourite pocket monsters, you may be wondering exactly how long it will take to beat Pokémon Pokopia when it comes to Nintendo Switch 2.
The game’s chief director Takuto Edagawa has revealed that it will take “about 20 to 40 hours” on average to reach Pokémon Pokopia’s credits. However, he promises that there is much more to experience post-completion meaning that your adventure will be far from over.
“So for this game, the main motivation for this game is typically not to go to the end roll [credits]. The whole concept is to create the world with Pokémon and live with the Pokémon,” Edagawa explained in an interview with IGN.
“However, as an average, it’ll be about 20 to 40 hours, but it would really depend on how the players play the game. There’s more things to experience after the end roll [credits]. So it depends on what you mean by contents, but I believe that players are encouraged to and will be motivated to continue to play the game.”
From co-developers Game Freak and Koei Tecmo Games, Pokémon Pokopia stars a Ditto that takes on a human appearance and builds a new life with other Pokémon.
As Ditto, players can explore and learn moves from the Pokémon they befriend—such as Bulbasaur’s Leafage to grow greenery, or Squirtle’s Water Gun to revive dried-up plants—expanding their capabilities and helping them create an inviting environment to attract a variety of Pokémon.
Players can collect materials, build furniture, grow vegetables, and create homes for Pokémon, allowing them to experience a cosy, slow life with Pokémon – one that they build themselves from the ground up. Over time, players can develop a town of their own and invite other players or Pokémon to visit. Pokémon Pokopia also features a day-night cycle linked to real-world time, changing weather, and in-game locations with their own unique characteristics.
Pokémon Pokopia will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 5 March 2026.
