With Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair now revealed to the world, Playtonic Games has talked a little more about their new “platforming-adventure hybrid.”

While they have shared that a physical Nintendo Switch edition will happen and that the game will see a simultaneous launch across all platforms, the developer has also confirmed that this is not a direct sequel to 2017’s Yooka-Laylee.

“No, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair isn’t a direct sequel,” Playtonic Games writes in a short FAQ.

“We’ve got lots planned for the future of the Yooka-Laylee universe, but we want to approach each with a fresh take, as each game is an opportunity for us to add new mechanics and gameplay that isn’t necessarily limited to what’s happened before.”

In Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Yooka and Laylee must work together to help Queen Phoebee restore order to the Royal Stingdom – rescuing her Royal Beettalion Guard from the clutches of Capital B.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will release at retail and on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2019.
