XSEED Games has announced that they are to publish Exile’s End on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U.

This has been developed by Tokyo-based indie Matt Fielding in collaboration with industry veterans, and backed by Japanese publisher Marvelous. The dark and futuristic 2D side-scroller is a partial remake of Fielding’s first game Inescapable, significantly expanding on its general ideas and themes.

Players are promised adventure-style puzzles, exploration-driven platforming, and dangerous extraterrestrials, resulting in an experience that is part Metroidvania and part cinematic platformer.

Exile’s End takes place in the distant future, where mega-corporation Ravenwood controls commerce and manipulates the economy with its own private army. When the company president’s son goes missing on a remote mining planet, a team of mercenaries are dispatched to investigate.

However, upon their arrival the team’s ship experiences electrical failure and tumbles toward the planet’s surface. Numerous soldiers eject using escape pods, but only an old, embittered private named Jameson seems to safely make landfall. While trying to restore communication, he discovers the remains of the mining colony and learns a far more sinister truth than he could have imagined.

With uniquely stylised animated cutscenes, multiple endings, and an atmospheric soundtrack penned by Ninja Gaiden and Tecmo Super Bowl composer Keiji Yamagishi, players will hesitantly explore a massive, interconnected alien world.

Exile’s End will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U this summer.
