The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL are to be graced with a remake of Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles, having shifted across from Wii.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata made the announcement within Friday’s Nintendo Direct, explaining that they had previously hoped to develop it on the current 3DS and 3DS XL. However, this has now been made possible by the upgraded models which have a more powerful CPU installed.

The hardware boost has also paved the way for several other titles in development that will be exclusive to the New Nintendo 3DS and 3DS LL, although will be unplayable on older models. This has sparked concern over fragmenting and confusing the current and prospective 3DS owners, so Nintendo will need to be clear about how they handle their arrival at retail.
