Work begins on next Super Smash Bros. installments

With Kid Icarus: Uprising soon to launch, Project Sora head Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that work has begun on the next installments within the Super Smash Bros. franchise.

Sakurai is currently looking at work on previous Wii release Super Smash Bros. Brawl, recollecting work through the Super Smash Bros. Dojo official website. In doing so, he commented through social media site Twitter, “However, what’s the word… it’s tremendous. How did we make this?”

Following this, Sakurai received messages from fellow developers including Masanobu Suzui, CEO of Indies Zero who worked on Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, saying that he had once looked back over the design documents, materials and the development schedule for a previous project and that he couldn’t figure out how they’d actually made the game.

Sakurai then responded, writing “It’s because we always put our full effort into it. And then, if you rely on that pace, it becomes more and more difficult”.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata revealed at E3 2011 that the company would release a Super Smash Bros. title for both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, although Sakurai stated that work wouldn’t begin until Kid Icarus: Uprising had been finalised and could take several years to complete.
