If the Nindie Showcase presentations weren’t any indication, it is clear that Nintendo wants to help independent developers thrive on Nintendo Switch as much as they can.

It’s great to hear, then, that many have already found that the portable home console’s audience is readily engaging with their content.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Lizardcube founder Omar Cornut has even revealed that they have sold “more copies of Wonder Boy on the Switch than the three other platforms we released on combined.”

That’s particularly impressive when considering the much larger audience that PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC have attracted, while also perhaps being indicative that the action-adventure game is precisely the kind of content that many want to see on the Nintendo eShop.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cornut also praised the chance to implement HD Rumble with the Joy-Con, explaining: “Because of how simple and expressive the thing is to program, it was easy for us to put in interesting rumble into Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, whereas doing something interesting with the PS4/Xbox controllers is harder.”

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the game, concluding in our review: “… simply have to commend Lizardcube for the effort they have put into Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, even if it is a remake. A lot of other companies that remake older games can learn a thing or two from this developer. It looks great, sounds great and still plays wonderfully too.”
