Wii U to scrap Friend Codes, achievement system teased

Seemingly having learnt its lesson from the disastrous Friend Codes that plagued the success of the Wii’s online connectivity, Nintendo are to now reportedly abandon them in favour of unified username and friends list.

Having posed the question as to why Wii U was a good fit for Ghost Recon Online, considering that Nintendo’s hardware have always traditionally not excelled in regards to online capabilities, producer Adrian Blunt commented: “There’s a few things on that. The first is the ability for individuals to make accounts. Rather than a machine having an account, each individual user has an account.”

“Equivilent to a gamertag on Xbox Live?,” MTV further queried to which Blunt responded “Yeah, exactly.”

“Also the ability to easily find friends,” he continued. “Rather than using friend codes, which we’ve had in the past, we’re able to connect players in a much easier way, which allows us to have a community that’s playing together in the game.”

Further questioned as to whether the Wii U would feature some form of achievement system, Blunt teased “I…can’t answer that at the moment.”

[Thanks, MTV]
