Nintendo’s struggle to spark Wii U sales continues, with the company’s latest financial report revealing that the past six months has only seen them manage to sell another 460,000 consoles worldwide.

Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD haven’t proved enough to turn the situation around, although a larger 300,000 chunk of those hardware sales were made in the quarter which ended on September 30th.

Yet Wii U software sales have grown, climbing by 400 percent year-on-year to hit 5.27 million units – a positive sign amid otherwise stark news.

The console’s installed base now sits at 3.91 million units globally, with Nintendo still looking to reach 9 million by the end of the fiscal year on March 30th. Such target isn’t entirely out of reach, especially if Super Mario 3D World and new bundles can see success at Christmas, although competitor’s next-generation consoles will be determined to steal any available attention.
