Wii U GamePad won’t support Wii, WiiWare, or Virtual Console software

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has clarified that gamers won’t be able to use the Wii U GamePad to play Wii, WiiWare, or Virtual Console software.

During a pre-recorded Nintendo Direct presentation released earlier today, he clarified that users will have to use the console’s ‘Wii Mode’ to use these.

“We understand that there are people who were looking forward to playing Wii games, Virtual Console games, and so forth on the [Wii U] GamePad, but unfortunately we cannot accommodate those users’ expectations,” Iwata explained.
