Wii Party U drives Wii U console sales in Japan

It’s perhaps an unlikely candidate to do so in the eyes of core gamers, but Wii Party U has helped spike Wii U sales in Japan.

Media Create data reveals that Nintendo’s console achieved sales of 38,802 units last week, a significant leap from the meagre 2,598 units sold the week before. We can see from software sales that it was their minigame assortment was largely responsible, itself having shifted 37,371 copies which saw it seize sixth place in the software chart.

Nintendo will be hoping that such a healthy consumer response will continue, boosted further by the impending arrival of Super Mario 3D World.
