Last week’s Nintendo Direct brought news that Super Nintendo Entertainment System games will now see release on the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service. But, those with older iterations of Nintendo’s handheld have been left disappointed by the situation.
Nintendo has moved to address the criticism, reiterating that it is the improved CPU in the New Nintendo 3DS models that have made it possible to achieve.
“As previously announced, New Nintendo 3DS has an improved CPU, which enables Super NES games to run on the system with quality results,” a Nintendo of America representative explained to Game Informer. “The Super NES games also include Perfect-Pixel mode, which allows players to see their games in their original TV resolution and aspect resolution.”
The Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service has largely welcomed Game Boy, Game Boy Color, SEGA Game Gear and Nintendo Entertainment System titles over the past five years. However, those that were part of the Ambassador Programme were able to receive 10 Game Boy Advance titles.
Fans have long voiced their desire for a wider selection, but the GBA titles demonstrated the handheld’s hardware limitations in being unable to provide save states, or allowing players to suspend play by closing their Nintendo 3DS.

There is an emulator for the DS on a flashcart wich can achieve the exact same thing, no lag, good graphics.
And that was on a DS, the emulator whas at ver 0.2.3!!!

Yeah, that’s complete b******t. So is your last line saying that the “Hardware’s limitations” are why GBA doesn’t have savestates or suspend play. Nooooooo, that’s because they didn’t update it to do so! The NES games that were offered never did that either until they started actually being sold for money, by which point you could update them to do so! They just want to try and force people to change the system, plain and simple!
