With 900 Korok Seed puzzles to hunt down in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players were understandably confused when, after collecting them all, they were handed Hestu’s Gift accompanied with the message: “A gift of friendship given to you by Hestu. It smells pretty bad.”

Searching around every forest and atop each mountain, it seemed an unfitting reward from the big forest kid who loves nothing more than to shake his maracas. But, as Nintendo has explained, that was the point.

“We just kind of thought it would be funny to make that a big joke [laughs],” The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi explained to IGN. “It’s just the backstory, the kind of hidden kind of thing in the game the whole way is that the Korok seeds are actually Korok poop.”

Of course, the benefit to collecting Korok Seeds is that they can be exchanged with Hestu to unlock additional slots for Link’s weapon, bow, and shield pouches. But, for those that have collected them all, how did you feel about receiving a golden turd from the big forest kid?
