Xenoblade Chronicles X’s director Koh Kojima has discussed how changing weather patterns will have an impact on battles in the Wii U exclusive.

Monolith Soft worked hard to implement the weather and climate variance on Planet Mira, accompanied by a more distinctive day and night cycle than that seen on Wii’s Xenoblade Chronicles. Players can expect to encounter fair, cloudy, rainy, thunderstorms, auroras and rainbows, with certain regions having heat waves and sandstorms.

“The idea of having a different monsters appear in the fields at day and night was already a feature in Xenoblade Chronicles,” Kojima explains. “In Xenoblade Chronicles X, we have also made it so that weather affects the battles.

“It isn’t just a visual effect, but is fully featured in battle tactics. Tuning the weather change cycle was fairly hard work, though…”

Xenoblade Chronicles X will launch exclusively for Wii U in Japan on April 28th, with Europe and North America to follow later this year.
