Ghost Pattern has announced that its “lovingly illustrated simultaneous storytelling game” Wayward Strand is coming to Nintendo Switch.

Taking inspiration from interactive theatre, the experience centres on 14-year-old Casey Beaumaris – an intrepid teenage journalist – on her first trip to the flying ship-turned-hospital in the skies above a small Australian town in the Summer of 1978.

Aboard the ship, Casey must help the staff, get to know the patients and uncover the truth about the mysteries behind the ship itself. Multiple storylines play out in real-time, with characters going about their lives and schedules – interacting with Casey and each other. You can choose who to speak to directly and who to eavesdrop on – with more than 20,000 lines of voiceover dialogue recorded for the game.

With your curiosity leading you through the game, a single playthrough will offer “a complete experience of one version of the story” but the developers encourage multiple playthroughs “to begin to see the full picture.”

Wayward Strand will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 21st July 2022.
