Wave Race Trademark Filed By Nintendo

Nintendo has registered a Wave Race trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), leading us to dream that the jet ski racer may be making a return on Nintendo Switch.

Filed on their behalf by German patent attorney firm Grünecker, the trademark application is under examination and unsurprising covers all the usual bases in the ‘consumer video game’ category.

The Wave Race series has been dormant since GameCube’s Wave Race: Blue Storm in 2001, which became the third best-selling launch title for the console in North America behind Luigi’s Mansion and Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader.

As always, this could simply be that, in an increasingly competitive world, Nintendo has moved to protect the brand name, rather than it signalling that a game is in development.
