Earlier today, Nintendo broadcast a special Pokémon Direct in which global president Satoru Iwata announced Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.
This set of Nintendo 3DS exclusives will launch worldwide in October, and present the first true evolution for the series by encapsulating 3D environments, improved visuals and support for stereoscopic 3D.
The ten-minute video provides a historic overview of previous entries within the series, before Iwata shares details of the new titles alongside a gameplay trailer, introduced by the adorable Pikachu.
We also learn of the three new starter Pokémon: Chespin (Grass-type), Fennekin (Fire-type) and Froakie (Water-type).
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will release globally for Nintendo 3DS in October 2013.
