Digital Eclipse and Crazy Viking Studios have confirmed a release date for Volgarr the Viking 2 on Nintendo Switch.
The sequel comes more than a decade after the original game, delivering a hardcore 2D action-platformer in which “precision is everything and one false move can spell a brutal death.”
Promising the same unforgiving 1980s arcade level of difficulty, you can choose how punishing your quest will be with modern quality-of-life options like checkpoints, save states and an undead mode.
You can expect new power-ups, forms of magic and enemy types, as you explore new and larger works that take their inspiration from Norse mythology – with ruthless bosses to conquer and multiple endings to reach.
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- Stave off death with new power-ups and magic items
- A roster of ruthless bosses so big and so ugly, they’re just begging to have their heads chopped off
- An epic orchestral soundtrack to carry you through battle
- Six distinct endings based on player performance —only the masterfully skilled will unlock a hidden level to battle a secret final boss!
- Modern-era upgrades include a practice mode and multiple profile save options
- Buckets of blood and bone explosions
- Loincloths
Volgarr the Viking 2 will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 6 August 2024.
