Blowfish Studios and Indiesruption have announced that Vlad Circus: Descend Into Madness will release on Nintendo Switch early next year.

1921. The famous Vlad Circus was ravaged by an atrocious fire that was intentionally started by the owner’s brother in the middle of a show, an incident that resulted in hundreds of deaths. The circus troupe was forced to disband, but, after an eight-year hiatus, the original ringleader looks to reunite the original cast who are unaware of the horrors that lie ahead.

In this 2D pixel-art horror adventure, you will have the chance to explore Petrescu’s Victorian-inspired manor as Oliver Mills, the circus performer who created the clown character “Lazy Ollie.”

Time and trauma have stunted Oliver’s memory, but he hopes that he can clear the fog by talking to old friends. You will need to wander the property, reconnecting with his old circus troupe, hearing about what they have done in the last eight years, and what they remember about the incident.

Lantern in hand, you must scour the shadow-eclipsed grounds for key items needed to access mysterious hidden areas while being wary of the haunting abominations that linger in the dark.

“Vlad Circus: Descend into Madness melds a rich and captivating storyline with dynamic, fear-provoking gameplay that only adds to the experience,” explains Indiesruption lead designer Diego Cánepa. “Players can immerse themselves with the spine-chilling story mode or grab a weapon and fend for their lives in challenge mode for those who want a more demanding combat experience.”

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features as below:

  • A twisting, psychological horror tale with an unforgettable ending.
  • Puzzle-solving elements and survival mechanics.
  • A labyrinthine mansion of over 50 locations.
  • Enchanting pixel art and dazzling 2D lighting system.

Vlad Circus: Descend Into Madness will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Q1 2023.
