Virtual Console Section Discovered On Nintendo Switch eShop

The Nintendo Switch is regularly data mined to uncover its secrets, and the latest discovery is that Nintendo has added a Virtual Console section to the Nintendo eShop.

That has seen NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS categories added to the Nintendo eShop’s JSON (JavaScript Object Notation), although the reasoning for doing so remains unclear.

It has been pointed out that the Nintendo 3DS JSON has the same selection of platforms, even if Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS games were never made available for the handheld on the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo has stated that there are “no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner,” with Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime even explaining that the Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online subscription service should be seen as the “Virtual Console successor.”
