Virtual Console Misses Nintendo Switch Launch

Nintendo Switch will not launch with a Virtual Console service, news that coincided with FAST RMX, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be available on the Nintendo eShop at launch.

“Virtual Console games will not be available on Nintendo Switch at launch,” the company confirmed in a press release. “We will share more information in the future.”

It will come as a disappointment given the rumour that swirled in December that Nintendo European Research & Development (NERD) has been responsible for engineering the Virtual Console service on Nintendo Switch.

That resulted in talk that three GameCube games were ready to release on the Virtual Console in Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, and Super Smash Bros. Melee, with testing underway on Animal Crossing as the next potential release.
