SEGA has announced that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is in development for Nintendo Switch 2, featuring cross-play support with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, and rollback netcode.
“I know we’ve kept you waiting, but our Steam release, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., is finally coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2,” legacy Virtua Fighter Projects producer Siji Aoko confirmed in today’s VF Direct 2025 Spring.
“Since Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.’s launch, we’ve heard your requests for multiplatform support via the official VF Discord and other channels. We on the development team want to give users on all platforms the opportunity to enjoy Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., so we are happy to bring you this announcement.
“Also, in bringing this title to multiple platforms, we’re planning to include cross-play support. And to make your cross-play experience even smoother, the rollback functionality used in the Steam version will be supported on all platforms.
“We’re going to include even more content to make this much more than a simple port, which we’ll tell you about in future updates. Whatever platform you play on, we hope you’re looking forward to getting in the ring with fighters from all around the world!”
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is pitched as “the ultimate remaster of the classic 3D fighter,” in which you can battle through classic modes like Arcade or Rank Match, create your own custom online tournaments and leagues with up to 16 players, or learn from the best in Spectator Mode.
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features for its original Steam version, which include:
- The Ultimate Edition of this legendary game: Rollback Netcode support, gorgeous 4K visuals with updated high-res textures and more.
- Custom Combatants: Enter the ring with one of 19 playable characters. Master each of their unique fighting styles and customise them with distinctive costumes and items.
- The Full Experience: Enjoy the pinnacle of Virtua Fighter as you battle it out across your favourite modes like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus
- Crush the Competition: Take on challengers from around the world as you compete with up to 16 players in new online modes including Tournaments and League.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date or window unspecified.
