Nintendo has revealed more about its remake of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, which is coming to Nintendo Switch.

Square was behind this very first RPG in the Super Mario series, which was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System way back in 1996.

Now overhauled with updated graphics and cinematics, you will have the chance to join Mario as he teams up with Bowser, Princess Peach, Mallow and Geno to face down a menacing force known as the Smithy Gang in an effort to recover the seven stars needed to repair Star Road.

Entering a colourful world of “eccentric allies and offbeat enemies in an RPG for everyone,” you will be able to explore vibrant environments and run into monsters to enter turn-based battles with your party of three.

You can time your button presses with Action Commands to increase the damage that you deal or decrease the damage received, or, when you time your attacks perfectly, you can damage all enemies at once.

Your Action Gauge will gradually fill whenever you perform successful Action Commands, which, once full, can be used to unleash a three-character Triple Move. This changes based on the characters in your party, so you can experiment with different combos.

Super Mario RPG will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 17 November 2023.
