We know that Nintendo Switch has become Nintendo’s fastest-selling console in Europe, but such success has resulted in UK retailers becoming concerned about stock shortages.

While sharing praise for the widespread demand that had been generated as the console’s launch had approached, retailers are now looking to make sure that they can continue to help maintain such momentum and capitalise on the next opportunity that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe presents.

“We satisfied all pre-orders and blasted through the remainder of our initial allocation,” HMV head of technology and games Phil Browes explained to MCV. “Every single one of our pre-order customers received their console on launch day, and we’re optimistic that with some great games due to be released, Switch can establish itself as a successful third console in the market. We’re a bit tight [on stock] but we’re looking forward to more deliveries this week.”

ShopTo head of commercial Alison Fraser shared: “Overall, it was a great success. I’m afraid we did [have delivery issues] which took the shine off the successful launch as we shipped to all of our customers on Thursday which would have been on time for launch.”

One manager at a UK retailer added that they have not received any confirmation from Nintendo about when to expect the next shipment, believing that they may have to wait until April for their stock to be replenished.

“We are in communications with Nintendo but there is not a confirmed date as of yet,” they shared. “With Mario Kart [8 Deluxe] coming in April I would hope there would be more stock before then but that’s not been confirmed.”

Nintendo Switch has now launched worldwide, priced at £279.99 ($299.99).
