Ubisoft has announced “a major organisational, operational and portfolio reset,” a strategic decision it says has been made in response to “the continued shift toward a persistently more selective AAA market and an increasingly competitive shooter landscape, combined with the growing challenge for publishers to create brands in a context of higher costs.”

Their plans have been extensively outlined in the publisher’s press release, which they will look to achieve through three main pillars: “a new operating model, a refocused portfolio with a meaningfully revised three-year roadmap, and the rightsizing of the organisation.”

Such significant change hasn’t been without its casualties, with Ubisoft confirming that it has made the decision to discontinue six games that were in development. The included four unannounced games (three new IPs and a mobile game), and the troubled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.

First revealed in an UbiForward presentation way back in September 2020, early gameplay footage was met with backlash after viewers noted repeated use of the same character models. The game’s troubled development at Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune continued until the publisher handed the project back to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original game.

After a teaser trailer was shown in June 2024, the game was scheduled to release this year. We now know that it has been cancelled, with Ubisoft indicating that the project did not meet the quality that it now expects from its teams’ output moving forward.
