Ubisoft abandon US Watch_Dogs trademark pursual

Ubisoft have chosen to abandon their trademark submission for “Watch Dogs,” sending the Internet into meltdown as to what this means for the publisher’s ambitious open world hackmageddon.

Filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) back in June 2012, it rather extensively covered “game software and electronic game programs, namely, software games recorded on CD-ROM and digital video discs for computers; software games recorded on CD-ROMs, digital video discs, and cartridges for console and individual, portable gaming systems; software games that are downloadable from a remote computer site and electronic game software for mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and handheld computers.”

However their pursual of such trademark was abandoned over the weekend on 1st February 2014, signalling that the publisher may be choosing to rename the current and next-gen project.

We haven’t heard much about Watch_Dogs since it was delayed into a spring 2014 release window, as well as inaccurate rumblings that the Wii U version may have been cancelled.
