Digerati and Helsinki-based developer Antti Vaihia have announced that Tunnel of Doom will soon see release on Nintendo Switch.

Pitched as an “easy-to-pick-up action rogue-lite that combines real-time tower defence with melee and ranged combat gameplay,” the game takes place in 1903 at Goldcrest – a small mining town.

After the mayor shuts down the town’s mine until further notice, Angel enters it with the hope of rescuing her husband and searching for other survivors. What she didn’t anticipate was the hordes of ghoulish creatures that are lurking in the darkness…

With every run being randomly generated, you must gather resources, strategically position traps and barricades to boost your chances of survival or improvise by throwing rocks or glass to keep the creatures away from you.

“My debut title left a void in my life. I needed another fix to feed the addiction. Luckily, I stumbled upon a tweet from Jan Willem Nijman (Vlambeer) about simple random level generation,” Antti Vaihia explains. “After toying around with this mechanic, I started to imagine the kind of game it could inspire. Sticking with the mining theme of my previous game I set forth to put my own spin to the rogue-lite scene. It’s been a blast. Cheers to you Jan!”

Tunnel of Doom will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Q2 2021.
