THQ have confirmed that they are to cut 79 full-time jobs at Vigil Games, and a further 39 at Relic Entertainment.

Vigil Games are currently developing the anticipated Darksiders II, whereas Relic Entertainment are renowned for its efforts with Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.

Such staff cuts are the result of a switch in development, with Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium moving to a single and multiplayer project ceasing previous plans to create a massively multiplayer online game.

“Vigil Games will continue to focus on both this game and the critically-acclaimed new title, Darksiders II, scheduled for release this summer”, THQ explained. “Relic Entertainment continues to focus its development expertise on THQ’s franchises including Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War”.

Currently beset with financial troubles, THQ last month announced a net loss of $55.9 million (£35m) for its third fiscal quarter which ended December 31st 2011.
