Private Division and Obsidian Entertainment have confirmed that The Outer Worlds release date for Nintendo Switch has been delayed.

This decision was made in response to the coronavirus, which has resulted in Virtuos – who are handling the port to the portable home console – closing their office in response to the situation.

“We’re delaying The Outer Worlds on Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development,” Private Division explained in an update.

“We’ll now be releasing the physical version on cartridge. Once we have a new launch date, we’ll let you know!

“To clarify, the team at Virtuos is ok, but their office has remained closed during this time. We’re working with the team to determine an updated development timeline, and will share more regarding a new launch date shortly.”

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, in this single-player sci-fi RPG you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony.

As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

The Outer Worlds will release for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2020 priced at £49.99 ($59.99).
