Nintendo has revealed the key actors who will star as Link and Zelda in the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie.
Bo Bragason has been cast as Zelda, whereas Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play as Link.
Bragason has recently starred as Roxy Trotter in Disney+ fantasy adventure series Renegade Nell, and alongside Jenna Coleman in the BBC One crime drama The Jetty.
Whereas Ainsworth’s recent roles include Miles in the Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor, in the Disney film Flora & Ulysses, and he lent his voice to Pinocchio in the live-action remake of Disney’s Pinocchio that also starred Tom Hanks.
“This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen,” the company posted on social media.
“The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027. Thank you for your patience.”
With plans first announced back in November 2023, the film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions chairman Avi Arad, who has worked as a producer on recent films such as Ghost In The Shell, Venom, Uncharted, Morbius and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for the movie’s theatrical distribution worldwide.
The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will be released worldwide on 7 May 2027.
