Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass, which will deliver the first-ever downloadable content for a mainline game in the series.

From launch, players will be able to purchase an Expansion Pass for £17.99 (€19.99/$19.99), that will grant them access to two downloadable content packs when they become available later in the year.

Once players have bought the Expansion Pass, three new treasure chests will appear in the game’s Great Plateau area. One will contain an exclusive shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo that Link can wear during his adventure with the other two hiding “useful items.”

Beyond this, the first content pack will release in summer and will add a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map.

The second content pack will be released in Holiday 2017, and will add new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story.

“The world of Hyrule, which we created for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is so large and vibrant that we wanted to offer more for players to experience within it,” explained The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma. “With this new Expansion Pass, we hope that fans will play, explore and enjoy the game even more.”

The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions and are identical, although Nintendo adds that the content packs cannot be purchased separately.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch and Wii U worldwide on March 3rd.
