With no first-party Nintendo Switch games yet scheduled for the rest of the year, fans had uncovered what they believed to have been official Super Mario 35th and F-Zero Japan Twitter accounts.

Now, to no one’s particular surprise, the user that created the F-Zero Japan account has revealed it to be fake.

In a post that comes accompanied with an indescribably strange minute-long animation, the Japanese user wrote “I did it,” shattering the fanbase’s more than nearly two-decade-long dream for the series’ return.

The futuristic racing series has remained dormant since 2004’s F-Zero Climax on Game Boy Advance.

Shigeru Miyamoto once spoke about his hope that it could return, and again in 2015 when he expressed that if Nintendo could “create a new type of controller interface” that was “particularly suited to F-Zero” it could make a return in the future.
