Square Enix has confirmed a release date for its “all-new” strategy RPG The DioField Chronicle, which is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.

Promising to immerse you “in an epic tale of war and honour,” the game has been developed in collaboration with Lancarse – a team of veteran strategy developers with unique character designs by Taiki (Lord of Vermilion III, IV), concept art from Isamu Kamikokuryo (Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XIII) and orchestrated music penned by world-renowned composers Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell (Game of Thrones).

Set in a world that blends fantasy, medieval and modern-day influences, under the Shaytham dynasty the Kingdom of Alletain has known peace for 200 years. However, they suddenly find themselves cast into an age of uncertainty due to the rise of warlike powers and Modern Magic. Rich in the mineral Jade, which is used as a base ingredient in magic and sorcery, the Kingdom inevitably draws the attention of both the Empire and the Alliance.

You will command a band of elite mercenaries that call themselves Blue Fox, a name that could come to signify either hope or dark tragedy. That will see you engage in a “deeply strategy” real-time battle system referred to as Real-Time Tactical Battle (RTTB), with the story unfolding through diorama-style combat scenes in which you must assess front line conditions, issue decisive orders and use skills, classes and equipment to gain the upper hand.

The DioField Chronicle will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 22nd September 2022.
