Spanish developer Delirium Studios has announced plans to release The Delusion of Von Sottendorff and his Square Mind this winter.

Destined for Nintendo 3DS, it stars well-to-do aristocrat Baron Von Sottendorff who believes he’s living the good life in early 20th Century Europe. But, he’s actually trapped inside a reproduction of his mansion created by his mind and it’s down to the player to help him escape from such madness.

Promising a non-traditional take on the platform-puzzle genre, it combines platform elements with environmental puzzles. Players will manipulate 200 rooms using the touch screen, with the Baron’s mind populated with eight different worlds and 40 perplexing levels.

Only by recovering the Baron’s lost memories will you discover the reason behind his sudden descent into madness, with the announcement trailer providing a glimpse at what to expect.

“Ever since the announcement of the 3DS, I’ve always wanted to create a platform game that blended elements of different genres that could use the 3D effect to give users a different perspective on how to solve puzzles,” explains Delirium Studios co-founder and creative director Arturo Monedero.

“The dual screens allowed us to let the user control the Baron and the position of each room independently of each other, the end result being some insanely devious puzzles.”

The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and his Square Mind will release exclusively for Nintendo 3DS this winter.
