With the world having the chance to survive the Reapers’ Game in The World Ends With You: Final Remix on Nintendo Switch next month, producer Tetsuya Nomura has expressed interest in creating a sequel.

His comments came in an interview on The World Ends With You: Final Remix TGS 2018 Special Stage. When asked as to why it has made a return on Nintendo’s portable home console, Nomura responded:

“In every country [that] I’ve had interviews, I got many requests asking for it and I’ve spent the past 11 years thinking ‘We need to do something again sometime.’ However, when the Nintendo Switch released it was the perfect hardware for it, so I thought it was a good opportunity and decided to announce Final Mix.”

The rhythmic action RPG will have a new scenario – A New Day – that Nomura was asked when it took place in the timeline. He responded:

“Around after releasing the original game 11 years ago, we talked about all kinds of ideas for what to do next. The time has come for us to bring The World Ends With You back to the world again, but since we can’t just throw in some ideas to make the next game, we wanted a little something that is connected or hints [what’s next]. That’s how it came to be. As for the timeline, it’s a story that takes place after the ending.”

After The World Ends With You: Final Remix TGS 2018 Special Stage event, Nomura added:

“The game that fans have continued supporting is finally being revived after 11 years. Rather than thinking of it as a remaster, I’m thinking of it as starting once again. I want to make it into a development that will make you feel like it was worth your time to have supported it for so long.”

The World Ends With You: Final Remix will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch in Japan on September 27th, and worldwide on October 12th.
