Apt Games have shared a new gameplay trailer for TERROR SQUID, which is in development for Nintendo Switch.

“TERROR SQUID has long been a passion project that merges Lovecraftian horror with Super Stardust-like arcade action and 80s darkwave music,” explains the game’s creative director Syver Lauritzsen.

“It’s more than just retro nostalgia though, as TERROR SQUID’s brief loops of ultra punishing action will test your skills and wits as you enter a flow state and become one with the TERROR SQUID.”

This easy-to-understand but difficult to master arcade game promises to be a “score-attack synth nightmare,” in which every enemy projectile is emitted by you.

Set around a doomed planet you are the TERROR SQUID, a cosmic chaos entity that spins around the world unloading hazardous inky projectiles to create an “unholy vector graphics apocalypse.”

You must weave through a bullet hell of your own making, surviving as long as possible without getting hit by your own projectiles. Survive for long enough and you can unleash a “primordial blast of dark energy” that detonates your projectiles in chain reactions.

TERROR SQUID will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Fall 2020.
