Telltale Games has announced that it has made a difficult decision to start “a majority studio closure,” a sad outcome to a year in which they have faced “insurmountable challenges.”

Most of the developer’s employees were dismissed earlier today, leaving a 25 staff remaining “to fulfil the company’s obligations to its board and partners.”

We can interpret that to likely mean that they will wrap up work on The Walking Dead: The Final Season, which, with Episode Two out next week, has two episodes left to release in the coming months.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course,” explains Telltale Games CEO Pete Hawley.

“Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there. We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.”
