Nintendo has confirmed that Team Super Mushroom has won the special Super Mario 35th anniversary-themed Splatfest that took place in Splatoon 2 over the weekend.

The Splatfest ran for a 48-hour period and saw Inklings and Octolings battle it out in Turf War matches using red or yellow ink.

It had asked players to choose their team based on which power-up they would rather choose: invincibility from a Super Star, or super-size from a Super Mushroom?

While Team Super Star was the more popular choice (68.20 percent against Team Super Mushroom’s 31.80 percent), Team Super Mushroom earned more Clout in Normal (53.41 percent against 46.59 percent) and Pro (54.12 against 45.88 percent) matches to win the Splatfest two points to one.

“Super Mushrooms goin’ big!” Pearl exclaimed in-game after the results were announced. “Big ups to all my teammates! So much for ‘invincible.’”

Marina responded: “Whatever. I’m proud of my Super Stars! We lost, but we still shined bright,” adding “I’m kinda bummed that I can’t call myself a Super Star after today, though…”

Splatoon 2 is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
