Update: Bandai Namco Entertainment America has now confirmed that no additional download will be required to play Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch.

“Apologies for the confusion, that is not the final box art for the Switch version and it WILL ship on a 16 GB cart, NO additional download will be required,” the company wrote on Twitter, clearing up any confusion.

Original Story: After the Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Premium Edition was announced, it was soon spotted that the North American copy has an “additional download required” banner – in contrast to the European version that does not.

That has led to understandable confusion, but, thanks to Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe, it has already been cleared up, in that European copies are being produced on a larger 16 GB cartridge.

“The EU [Nintendp] Switch version includes a 16 GB cartridge, so there shouldn’t be any additional download,” a Bandai Namco Entertainment representative clarified when asked on Twitter.

As to why Bandai Namco Entertainment America made the decision to use smaller cartridges is unclear, especially given the inevitable backlash that this will now spark.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition will release for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 11th January 2019.
