Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that it will continue its Remastered Project for the Tales of series, from which it will produce games “fairly consistently.”
Gematsu reports that such comments were made by Tales of series producer Yusuke Tomizawa on the Tales of series 30th Anniversary Project Special Broadcast.
With Tales of Graces f Remastered still to release he was unable to reveal any specific plans, but stated that Bandai Namco aim to “provide [remastered Tales of titles] fairly consistently” and “intends to continue doing so as much as possible.” He added that the Remastered Project now has a dedicated development team, which demonstrates their commitment to such ambition.
Further to this, in Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s 2024 Tales of Anniversary Celebration live stream, Tomizawa was asked about how frequently he would like to release a Tales of game now that they take longer to develop.
“Yes, you are right about the frequency of new game releases. Especially about the fact that, from Berseria to Arise, it took longer than before,” his response began. “We had been releasing new games almost every year or once every two years for a long time, but now it is taking even longer between releases. We acknowledge that we are taking longer to create new games.
“The reason is actually simple, the time and considerations needed for developing games on the latest hardware has been increasing exponentially, not linearly. To achieve the quality and formats people expect from our games, development costs have multiplied, which makes the future daunting.
“For Tales of, we want to match modern trends with regards to quality and worldwide distribution. In a sense, we have our sights set on a new direction. We believe that it is the correct choice to take more time in order to deliver a better product to everyone around the world, and we hope for your understanding.
“On the other hand, by allowing people to revisit previous games again periodically, as with the Remastered project, we would like to continue the opportunity for people to experience the Tales of series. So, in a sense, we have been establishing these two product lines. This is what we have been doing for the past few years. We hope you will be able to enjoy both new games and revisit old ones together.”
Tales of Graces f Remastered will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 17 January 2025.
