Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that it has decided to “pause development” on porting Borderlands 4 to Nintendo Switch 2.

“We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU,” Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis explained to Variety. “Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game.

“We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have PGA Tour 2K25 coming out and WWE 2K26 [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”

Borderlands 4 was a headline game in the early third-party support showcased to be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Gearbox Software founder and president Randy Pitchford not only made an appearance in the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation to reveal that the game was in development for the portable home console successor, but he had been interviewed for a Creator’s Voice video feature that was shared at a later date.

The publisher went on to lock in 3 October 2025 as the release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 port, only to delay the game indefinitely a week before it was due to launch.

“We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that,” Take-Two Interactive explained at the time.

“Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans.”

In accordance with Nintendo’s policy, all digital pre-orders for Borderlands 4 were cancelled, and we haven’t heard any more about how the port was progressing until now. Whether it will ever come to Nintendo Switch 2 is unclear.
