Square Enix has announced that Tactics Ogre: Reborn will release on Nintendo Switch later this year.

Based on the original 2010 release, the tactical role-playing game returns with a “massively enhanced edition” that has seen the developer recreate the game’s characters and backgrounds in high definition, a redesigned user interface with streamlined controls and sound-related improvements such as fully voiced dialogue, remastered sound effects and composer Hitoshi Sakimoto re-recording the entire soundtrack with a live orchestra.

Set in The Valerian Isles, which are the jewels of the Obero Sea, the region once suffered many years of conflict which Dorgalua Oberyth eventually put to an end. Revered as the “Dynast-King,” he managed to bring peace and prosperity to Valeria for half a century. However, after his death a civil war eruprs and once again throws the isles into a bloody struggle for power between its three warring factions.

You will have the chance to follow Denam Pavel’s story, a young man who becomes caught in the midst of the bloodshed. Seeking a path of freedome and justice, even to achieve such noble goals will require him to make impossibly difficult decisions.

Taking control of a team of units on the battlefield, you muse use the turn-based combat system “to act strategically and gain the upper hand over their enemy.” Progression will reward you with the chance to recruit additional party members, experiment with various classes, weapons, magic and abilities, as well as making “key decisions at several instances in the story that will ultimately impact how events unfold.”

Square Enix has broken down the game’s new updates and features as below:

  • Beautifully remastered graphics that enhance yet maintain the original distinctive visual style
  • Fully voiced cutscenes in English & Japanese
  • Full orchestral re-recording of the game’s soundtrack
  • Assorted quality of life updates, such as:
    • Redesigned battle system
    • Adjusted level management system
    • Reworked AI
    • Simplified and improved UI

Tactics Ogre: Reborn will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 11th November 2022.
