Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS development won’t start until Kid Icarus: Uprising is complete

Kid Icarus Uprising 3DS1

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata recently confirmed that Nintendo 3DS title Kid Icarus: Uprising would see a delay into 2012 to provide extra development time.

Whilst good news that time is being taken to perfect Kid Icarus’ anticipated return, it has meant that work on the next Super Smash Bros. game for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS still hasn’t begun.

Director of Software Development at Sora Ltd., Masahiro Sakurai, who has been the creative force behind the likes of Kirby, Kid Icarus and the popular Super Smash Bros. series stated on Twitter today: “I’m currently concentrating on one title, Kid Icarus. Until this wraps up, Smash Bros. will not progress. Of course, characters have not been decided at all.”

Such comments were probably made in an attempt to counter the continual messages that Sakurai receives discussing character selection for the forthcoming title. Still, I can’t personally wait!
