Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Challenger Pack 8 will add nine new music tracks from Final Fantasy VII.

Four of these tracks are new arrangements that have been created by, or under supervision from, celebrated Japanese composers Keiichi Okabe, Yoko Shimomura, Motoi Sakuraba and Yuzo Koshiro.

“Nine new songs have been added. We now have 11 songs total from the Final Fantasy series,” Sakurai explained. “Four of them are new arrangements. They all turned out to be magnificent. They’ve also been added to the Midgar stage.”

He continued: “Up until now, we only had two songs from Final Fantasy. We know that people would like to have more music from this series in this game. However, we were met with some challenges.

“For example, if a character is featured in a different game or appears in another game as part of a collaboration, there are some cases in which songs from the original game aren’t included.

“We need approval from all the copyright holders in all regions. In some cases, we only need approval from one company. In other cases, however, the copyright is shared among multiple companies. Or, depending on the country, the copyright holders may vary. We only include the songs in the game after all of these issues are resolved. Meaning Super Smash Bros. is truly exceptional!”

The new music tracks introduced with Challenger Pack 8 are:

  • Advent: One-Winged Angel – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children
  • Aerith’s Theme – Final Fantasy VII [Arrangement Supervisor: Keiichi Okabe]
  • Cosmo Canyon – Final Fantasy VII [Arrangement Supervisor: Yoko Shimomura]
  • JENOVA – Final Fantasy VII
  • Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII – Final Fantasy VII [Arrangement: Motoi Sakuraba]
  • One-Winged Angel – Final Fantasy VII
  • Opening: Bombing Mission – Final Fantasy VII [Arrangement Supervisor: Yuzo Koshiro]
  • Those Who Fight (AC Version) – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children
  • Those Who Fight Further (AC Version) – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
