Nintendo has announced that they will hold a Super Smash Bros. Invitational and Splatoon 2 World Championship at E3 2018.

On Monday 11th June and Tuesday 12th June, invited players will gather to play Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo Switch, while qualified teams will compete in Splatoon 2, with Nintendo hosting an event that promises viewers high-level gameplay in both games.

Battlefy will host the Splatoon 2 U.S./Canada Inkling Open 2018 that will act as the online qualifier to the Splatoon 2 World Championship for those in the United States and Canada.

This will be for teams of four aged 13 and up who will compete in Turf War, and will take place on April 21st starting at 11am PT. The finals will then take place a week later on April 28th at 8am PT, in which the teams will compete in Ranked Battles. You can learn more about the qualifiers on Nintendo of America’s website.

Players from around the world have, or will soon have, competed in their region’s qualifying events for a spot at the Splatoon 2 World Championship, and those in Japan (Splatoon Koshien 2018), Europe (Splatoon European Championship) and Australia (AUNZ Splatoon Cup).

“Nintendo always takes an original approach to video game competitions, and the portability of Nintendo Switch enables unique gameplay possibilities,” shared Doug Bowser, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America.

“We’re looking forward to watching some of the best players in the world test their skills against each other in these two uniquely competitive games.”

E3 2018 will take place between Tuesday 12th – Thursday 14th June at the Los Angeles Convention Center, with the tournaments to be livestreamed on Twitch and YouTube.
