Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Odyssey has become the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever in multiple regions around the world.
Across Europe, the Nintendo Switch exclusive’s launch weekend sales have surpassed Super Mario Galaxy 2 to make it the fastest-selling Super Mario game, with the globe-trotting adventure also becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game in the region.
Whereas in the United States, Nintendo of America has announced that more than 1.1 million copies were sold in five days to make it the fastest-selling Super Mario game in the country – outpacing New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It has also become the fastest-selling game on the portable home console there, too.
And, Mario and Cappy’s adventure has also become the fastest-selling Super Mario game in Australia as well. Whereas in Japan, Media Create has reported that 462,038 copies were sold in the game’s first week at retail.
Earlier this week, Nintendo had shared that two million copies had been sold worldwide in the game’s first three days on sale.
“The public continues to respond positively to Mario’s latest adventure,” enthuses Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “We’re also seeing sales momentum for Nintendo Switch thanks to an ever-growing catalog of games from large publishers and indie developers.”
Super Mario Odyssey is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
