Super Mario Galaxy stage confirmed for new Smash Bros.

Prepare for intergalactic fisticuffs, as Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that the new games next year will sport a Super Mario Galaxy stage.

Far from being a visual representation of the heralded Wii classic, Sakurai explains that the stage centre of gravity will be from the core of the planet, opening up new realms of strategic play.

“A new stage, Mario Galaxy!” Sakurai shared on Miiverse. “The pull of gravity emanates from the centre of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics.”

He continued to discuss the reveal in more comments, “Here’s what happens when you stand by the edges. Vertical jumps and getting hit upward will shoot you up diagonally.”
