Super Mario 3D World Online Play Progress Locked To Host Save File

Nintendo has delivered some bad news relating to Online Play in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury on Nintendo Switch.

While many have been excited at the idea of being able to experience the game with up to four friends online for the first time, the detail-packed overview trailer that the company released earlier today has confirmed that online sessions will use the host player’s current save file.

That part is perhaps understandable, but the kicker is that “progress will be saved only to this file.” This seemingly means that only one player will be able to register the Stamps and Green Stars that you collect, as well as which Worlds and Courses you have beaten together. With as many as four players grouping up, that’s a lot of content to have to replay.

The original Wii U game has been “enhanced” for the portable home console. Super Mario 3D World was the first 3D instalment to ever feature multiplayer, with players joining each other on a grand adventure that only the Mushroom Kingdom can provide, as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad – each with their own unique characteristics.

There are also new Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibo figures that will be released at the same time as the game, with the previous Bowser and Bowser Jr. amiibo to also be compatible with the Bowser’s Fury mode.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury will release at retail and on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 12th February 2021.
