Super Mario 3D Land sells over 340,000 units in Japan, Nintendo 3DS sales double

The latest sales figures from Media Create have revealed that Super Mario 3D Land, released a week ago in Japan, has managed to rake in an impressive 343,492 units.

This placed it atop the all-format software chart, fending off competition from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and Battlefield 3, and additionally caused an immediate spike in Nintendo 3DS hardware sales which hit 145,271 units.

Last month saw Nintendo 3DS hardware sales rise, leading analysts to believe that gamers were upgrading from their Nintendo DS’ in anticipation of Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Monster Hunter Tri-G. I think they were right…!
