We’ve been swept up in excitement for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: SNES Classic Edition, and, since it was announced earlier in the week, it has been revealed that those in Japan can look forward to the Super Famicom Classic Edition.

What’s come as a surprise is the differences in game selection. Where Europe and North America can enjoy EarthBound, Kirby’s Dream Course, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania IV, and Super Punch-Out!!, the Super Famicom Classic Edition will replace these with Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Panel de Pon, Super Soccer, Super Street Fighter II and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem has never seen release outside of Japan, and is the third entry in Nintendo’s rejuvenated strategy series.

The Super Famicom Classic Edition comes pre-loaded with 21 games:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • F-Zero
  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Mega Man X
  • Panel de Pon
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Soccer
  • Super Street Fighter II
  • The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Yoshi’s Island

The Super Famicom Classic Edition will release in Japan on October 5th, priced at 7,980 yen (£55).
