Having begun life on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Bandai Namco’s Tales of series – referred to by western audiences simply as Tales – has gained a long adoring following over the years.

2015 signals a special year for the franchise in being able to celebrate its 20th Anniversary, which is no small feat. That will be marked by PlayStation 3 exclusive Tales of Zestiria later in the year, but Bandai Namco have also been keen to take a look back at how the storylines, themes and character designs have changed in such time.

That can be seen in the timeline trailer below, with iterations, sequels and spin-offs having been seen on Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Nintendo DS, Wii and Nintendo 3DS. Whether the series will ever return to Nintendo’s platforms is unknown, but Bandai Namco have teased “an anniversary won’t be complete without massive surprises” – so we can hope that they may form part of that this year.

While holding out for whatever awaits us, Bandai Namco are encouraging fans to share any Tales-related creations with the hashtag #IAmTalesOf – so feel free to join in!
